As visitors to our office are aware, we have a large collection of bronze "Remingtons." These are cast bronze copies of sculptures by the artist Frederic Remington. We have now added our first Remington painting (or print to be more precise). "What An Unbranded Cow Has Cost" is a dark piece depicting the aftermath of a brutal gunfight between two rival groups of cowboys. Strangely, the unbranded cow that sparked this deadly confrontation is nowhere to be seen. It is clear that the "cost" of the dead horses and men far outweighed the cost of the one cow and the wisdom of such violence in trying to claim it.
